Pool Party! A Look at Some of the Most Magnificent Pools

Pools have been a social mainstay since Ancient Rome where politicians and philosophers mingled with the elite. Today pool parties and BBQs fill our summer calenders.  Day and night, after work or on the weekend, we spend a great deal of time standing around these artificial bodies of water.  Here are a few we wouldn't mind spending a little more time in...
This pool overlooks the intercostal waterway in Vero Beach Florida.
The dark limestone in this Ibiza pool makes a dramatic contrast against the light structure.

This shrine of a pool house makes the pool look more like its been blessed with holy water rather than chlorine.  Designed by Stuart Church for hotel impresario Joauad Kadri's Marrakech County House. We'll probably be seeing a great deal of beautiful structures in the upcoming Sex and the City 2 Movie!
Designer Cynthia Rowley defies New York City living with her urban poolside retreat, a beautiful contradiction of terms.

Starlight, star bright.  This 9,000 square foot bar is a beautiful allusion to the nighttime sky above.
We love quatrefoil inspired pieces in your home and wardrobe, but as a pool? Now that's perfection.

The above takes infinity pools to a whole other level.  If this scene doesn't make you want to go to Brazil I don't know what will.

This is just the coolest thing I've ever seen.  This residence, recently completed in Abu Dhabi (where the Sex and the City girls will be going) has a garden spa pool, infinity pools and indoor reflecting pools as well as hover over the world's largest salt water pool. How is this even possible??

Luxurious pools are getting revamped to accommodate our growing need for ecologically responsible design in all aspects of our homes.  These pools exemplify what it means to be eco-friendly, filled with salt water and maintained to perfection.  Read more about it here.

Thanks to elledecor.com for all of these great photos!

Here is a shot of the pool in the Westchester home of Melissa Hawks, owner of The Well Appointed House.  It features one of our water fountains quietly nestled behind the lounge chairs:

Be sure to check out our Patio and Garden section for some great outdoor decorating ideas.  The Well Appointed House recently got these great bins from The Macbeth Collection, ideal for organizing towels, flip flops, pool toys- whatever you need!
