It seems ludicrous to start talking about Fall, but in the fashion and design world, that’s just what we’ve been doing. Since it’s the first rainy day we’ve had all summer, it seems like the perfect time to join the weather and take a break from the sun and surf and look ahead at what’s to come. Fortunately, the couture fashions, which debuted in Paris last week, make the transition to fall a whole lot easier. We took a closer look at four of our favorite designers, Elie Saab, Givenchy, Christian Dior and Chanel, and the trends we saw.
Hello lady in red! Elie Saab (top row) had a strong showing of this bright hue, which he paired with plenty of sparkle, feathers and texture for that highly specialized, couture feel. There is no doubt we’ll see plenty of these creations on the red carpet in the months to come. It was John Galliano, head designer of Christian Dior, who made a bold statement with his voluminous, floral inspired collection. His use of red was seen throughout, but like in nature, very rarely on its own. Karl Lagerfeld used some of the hue for his Fall 2010 Couture show but never in its pure form. On the bottom right you can see an example with the pinkish red sequin and sheer dress. Check out our seeing red collection for some more inspiration on how to bring this powerful color into your space.
It’s hard to even think about dressing for Fall in the middle of the Summer, but with these bright colors and fun shapes, Fall doesn’t have to be all corduroys and cable knits. Saab and Galliano were the two who took this trend to the next level for the upcoming season.

As much fun as it is to play with the idea of bright colors and lots of shine for the colder months, neutral and muted shades are the mainstay, but in no way have to be boring. One of my favorite looks from all the shows is the feathered creation by Givenchy on the bottom left, reminiscent of our amazing Dransfield and Ross feather pillow. Tweed, leather and thick twills are pretty par for the course come September but with fur, feathers and sequins they become fun and feminine.
