New From High Point! Get These New Pieces Before Anywhere Else!

New York City is the mecca for fashion and home furnishings, but the place to be this past weekend was in High Point North Carolina at the Hight Point Market.  We wish we could've been there, just as we were at the past gift show in Manhattan, but at least we were able to get a glimpse of some of the new products being shown from some of our most trusted vendors.  Here is your exclusive look!
This room is like a nice, big warm chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips without any of the calories.  The matte lacquer pieces pop against the warm chocolate walls, creating a warm and posh look.  It is clearly picture perfect as is, but the pieces on their own can still bring that warm elegance to a space.  The white garden seat, the acanthus leaf bowl, pairs of birds on pastoral brackets- they all have a rare quality about them, which makes them appear one of a kind and now, through The Well Appointed House, you can have them before they hit stores.
This look is bright, feminine and chic all at the same time.  The silver leaf console can be used in an entryway, as a desk or vanity.  The mirror is the true focal point of the room with its sprawling curves overflowing from its rectangular frame, but the two vases and mirror are small pieces that go a long way in adding to any room's decor.  You can shop individual pieces or everything from this look here before anywhere else.
This piece is an interesting side or bedside table because of its antique mirrored sides and gold trim.  Its classic and elegant, but is still different enough to make it special and worthy of your home.
Nesting tables are great, but nesting benches? These new benches are upholstered in a plush chocolate velvet and are available in either hammered gold or bright nickel sides.  They fit perfectly next to each other underneath the larger bench or could be broken up and used in other spots throughout your room.
This desk is beyond chic and available in either gold or nickel.  The thick beveled glass and lower open side drawers sets this piece apart.  Good thing we also carry the stool as shown or in different finishes and upholstered tops.  Check out our new items to see all.
This lacquer open ended table is a favorite new addition.  Its simple and modern but in a shiny chocolate or white lacquer with mirrored insides and legs, its a great modern piece that can fit in a number of different spaces.  Be sure to check out our new products section, which we update almost daily for more new finds from High Point and elsewhere.

First Lady's Inaugural Gown by Jason Wu Arrives at Smithsonian

As I flipped through my May issue of Vogue last night as I sipped a warm cup of Harney & Sons Cherry Blossom Green Tea (you must try it!), I was excited to see a write up on Michelle Obama donating her Jason Wu inauguration dress to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History's First Ladies Collection.

The collection is filled with first lady artifacts, some dating back to Martha Washington's time in the White House.  You can read more about the exhibition here.

The now world-famous, 27-year-old Jason Wu, was at her side during the ceremony. I have been very impressed with Jason's designs since he exploded onto the world scene last year and even more so now that I will be attending his Spring/Summer fashion show coming up in September.  So far I'll be heading to his show and Lela Rose's show as well!  I can't wait to report on them to all of you.  What I love about his designs is that they truly are wearable.  Looking at his Spring 2010 collections, I see many outfits I would wear to a nice luncheon in NYC or to a cocktail party.   Since my birthday is the week after the Fall fashion shows, I'll definitely be making some purchases and perhaps I'll even have a soiree the night of the shows!
Here are a few of my favorites:

Jason has a spectacular behind-the-scenes look at his Spring 2010 show on his website.  Definitely check it out if you are a fashion junkie.

The dress that Michelle Obama wore to the Smithsonian ceremony was by Prabal Gurung, another designer who is relatively new on the scene.  He launched his first collection during New York Fashion Week in February of 2009 and his first runway show was this past Fall at Bryant Park.  I am looking forward to hearing more about him.  Michelle Obama clearly loves to shine the spotlight on new designers!  I am sure we will be seeing a lot more from Prabal, especially during the September fashion shows. Stay tuned!

Set Your TIVO! Tacky House with Thom Filicia Premieres Tomorrow Night on the Style Network!

If you've been staring at your neighbor's Gnome or crocheted hanging planters long enough and you need a few laughs, The Style Network is debuting a new fun home makeover show called Tacky House tomorrow, April 21st at 11PM.  The show will run on Wednesdays, so program your TIVOs!

Thom Filicia will be the host and driving force behind the new show.  Thom joined the Style Network to host Dress My Nest from his Emmy Award-winning run on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.  He was named one of House Beautiful's Top 100 American Designers and one of House & Garden's Top 50 Tastemakers for 2006.  Prior to his time with Queer Eye, he ran a successful interior design company called Thom Filicia, Inc. in New York City.

If nothing else, Tacky House sounds like it will be quite entertaining.  Here are some "before" photos of projects we can expect to see on the show...this should give you an idea as to what to expect!

Here are some examples of Thom's work from his website, which certainly gives hope that there will in fact be some fabulous makeovers to behold!  I thought you would enjoy taking a peek:

I was impressed with his creativity!  Please post comments on what you think about the show tomorrow night!

Barbara Barry Accessories at The Well Appointed House

For interioristas everywhere, it would be a dream to have your space designed by one of your favorite designers, so when someone like Barbara Barry comes out with their own collection of accessories it's like Christmas in July! Barry began her career in the mid eighties, creating her eponymous company Barbara Barry Incorporated, a design firm dedicated to private residences, commercial commissions and, of course, product design. Throughout the years she made a name for herself through her designs and in 2005 was named one of House Beautiful's "Giants of Designs" and Elle Decor's "Designer of The Year." She was also inducted into the Design Hall of Fame of Interior Design and counted in Architectural Digest's "AD 100."

Love that sideboard.  You can tell that she looks for pieces that have a traditional shape with a twist to them.

A great example of modern resort! The bullion fringe and heavy table cloth still looks amazing with the white arm chairs and light yellow cushions.

Barry's work features a lot of clean, modern lines in a very neutral color palette.  What makes her work so inspiring, is that despite her colder aesthetic her rooms look warm and homey.  Not surprisingly her collection of accessories is very much inspired by her designs.
This Convex Radiance Mirror is very current with its subtle inspiration from the sun.  The convex circular shape makes it unusual and special.

You won't need a crystal ball to know that with pieces like this incorporated in your room's decor you are going to have a well appointed space.

The Octet tray is great because of its mirrored base, which would look great with a translucent vase or jar on it to catch the light.

This script tray is a simple accent but its really pieces like these that can tie a room together.  We hope you enjoy our collection of Barbara Barry accessories.

Designer Events: Kips Bay Decorator Show House and Brunschwig & Fils Public Warehouse Sale Event

I have had the Thirty-Eighth Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House on my calendar now for two months.  It was supposed to be this week and a few nights ago, I went online to pass along information to friends who wanted to join me at the Opening Night Preview and I saw startled to see that the Show House has been postponed until Fall 2010.  (Good thing I checked their site!)  There is no further information as of yet as to where the new date and venue will be.  That is disappointing, but if you are interested in looking at the Show House Archives, you can go here to view images from Show Houses from 2001 until 2008.  I absolutely love going every year and as I am a big fan of Charlotte Moss, I always enjoy especially seeing the room she has done, among other favorite designers.  This is a great and *free* resource for design advice and inspiration.

Also, here is some SHOPPING BUZZ for you.   Since I have an account with Brunschwig & Fils, I have just today received a notice in the mail that they will be having their Annual Warehouse Clearance Event Saturday May 1st to Wednesday May 5th.  Visit their site for details.
