Shipwrecked Style
We've already begun our countdown to the weekend here at The Well Appointed House and no matter which way you slice the dice, it's only Tuesday and we've got lots to do before Friday comes around. In order to soften the blow, get excited for our nation's birthday and beat the case of the Tuesdays, we're spending the afternoon getting inspired by nautical, All-American decor.
Picture: Jean Allsop
This painted floor is what puts this modern-Americana room over the edge. The comfortably upholstered furniture with straight lines keeps this space from being overly cold or stark and don't compete with the floor's beauty.
The whale, signal pillows and lamp reinforce it's nautical nature but the built in shelving and trundle bed keep it from looking overly "themed."
Rebelling against the navy and white nautical standard, the above room keeps it's American sensibilities with plaid on plaid, a pop culture reference and of course a nod to the nautical.

Who wouldn't love to wake up on a yacht every morning? This designer got creative with this small breakfast nook, recreating a boat's dinning space with built-in benches and a teak table. Brilliant!
I've long since loved the idea of using recycled sails as a window treatment, but using old sails as a headboard and lampshade isn't too shabby. The accent pillows and bedding keeps this room from looking overly masculine or dark, which can sometimes be an issue. Such an inspired idea, this picture is certainly going in the scrapbook! In May we told you about how the Nautical trend was sweeping the runways and how to incorporate the look into your home. Here is a look back at some of our (still) favorite seaside inspired pieces from The Well Appointed House.

Eddie Ross and A New Giveaway!
We've been longtime fans of Eddie Ross ever since he showed off his style and sass on the much missed Bravo series, Top Design. Ross, a Greenwich native, started his career in television working as a food editor for Martha Stewart Living and then as a Associate Design Editor for The Food Network. Eddie left television for the print world when he joined House Beautiful as Associate Decorating Editor, which led to Top Design and his own most bookmarked blog. Interioristas and design devotees visit his blog daily for tips on everything from scouring flea markets for the perfect find to how to throw an enchanting and budget friendly soiree. With his partner Jaithan at his side, the two have created Eddie Ross, INC, where they offer interior design, styling, and, of course, event planning services.
We are so thrilled to be working with Eddie on our next giveaway! For Well Appointed House Blog Followers only we will be giving away this beautiful Delphi Italian Ceramic Cockatoo.
Tune into Eddie's blog later today to see how he styled this piece (even we don't know!) and enter to win by becoming a follower and commenting below. The winner will be announced July 9th so hurry and enter before it's too late!

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic This Weekend
Should you not be able to escape the urban dessert this weekend then you will definitely want to check out the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Governor's Island in Manhattan. You'll be able to join celebrities and royals alike as you cheer on Prince Harry's and Nacho Figueras's respective teams in this annual "sport of Kings" outing.
His space is decidedly modern with rustic elements, such as a cowhide here or there or some strong sculptures and industrial lighting.
Figueras and Prince Harry of Whales
The match was restarted after a 70 year hiatus by HRH Prince Harry of Whales and HRH Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to benefit their charity, Sentebale, an organization dedicated to helping orphans and at risk youth in Lesoth, Africa who are or may be affected by the HIV/Aids virus. Nearly 1/3 of Lesotho's population is infected with the disease and each year the money raised goes to bettering the lives of those individuals and enacting positive changes in the community. If this noble and worthy cause isn't enough to get you out there the fashionable crowd, riveting sport and champagne should be the kicker.Picnic guests enjoying the day
Ticketed guests will be privy to a champagne lunch by Michael Ramano, Chef/Owner of Union Square Cafe, as well as mid-day snacks, optimal seats and other little goodies along the way. Picnic tickets are no longer available, however if you wish to purchase a table for the event, contact the benefit office at 212-254-6677. Should you still want to attend and not have the funds for a table, the match is open to the public! Everyone is invited to attend and last year 6,000 did! The whole west side of the field is reserved to the public at no cost. Enjoy champagne concession stands with food provided by Danny Meyer's famed restaurant group, Union Square Hospitality Group.Play on!
Event headliner, Ralph Lauren model and star of their sponsored team Blackwatch, Nacho Figueras sat down with Elle Decor last month to discuss family, interior design and of course, polo. Take a look at some glimpses of his home, located in the new polo capital of the world, forty-five minutes away from the heart of Buenos Aires, as shot for the magazine by Miguel Flores-Vianna.His space is decidedly modern with rustic elements, such as a cowhide here or there or some strong sculptures and industrial lighting.
