Sunny Yellow

Runway photos:

Uberdesigner Karl Lagerfeld must have a sunny outlook for the future — sending ladylike suits in a lemony sorbet shade down his resort 2012 runway. The show, set in dreamy — and superchic — Antibes, at the exclusive Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc, would no doubt put anyone in good spirits, but the sunny, cheery yellow color was most certainly a mood-lifter as well.

Did Lagerfeld, the legendary style-setter, draw inspired from a certain grandmother-of-the-groom at a recent wedding? The granny in question — the one and only, Queen Elizabeth, did wear a very ladylike dress in a similar soft yellow hue to the royal nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  The Queen’s look was very well received and was the perfect choice for making a (subtle) splash at Westminster Abbey.
Bright and energizing yellow has gone from a trend to a standard in home decor. And why not? From a drawing room with mustard walls to a light, breezy sitting room with chiffon-y curtains to a bedroom with a lemon-drop striped headboard, the sunny shade adds an instant, built-in positive boost.

“There is no doubt about it–yellow is a color that lifts one’s spirits,” famed interior designer Bunny Williams tells Elle Decor.

Yellow also gives off a warm-weather aura all year long. What could be better than that? If going bold is not necessarily your thing, try adding an accent here or there in the eye-catching hue. You can’t help but smile at the results.
