The majority of my bathing suits are Letarte, an inconic Maui-based label that was created by sisters Lisa Letarte Cabrinha and Michele Letarte Ross. You can try on 50 bikinis and hands down, somehow their bohemian string bikinis with detailed adornments (the bamboo rings and special caps added to the ends of the ties stand out in my mind) are the ones that end up as favorites. I fell in love with the line last summer when I was in Nantucket. Their boutique will be “summering” on Nantucket for its second season at 5 South Water Street. If you haven’t been, it’s worth a visit. They have the best coverups on the island and the suits are routinely seen on celebs such as Paris Hilton and Sofia Vergera:
They have plum and pink poncho/tunics, coral and orange string bikinis and fabulous beach-inspired jewelry that’s perfect for layering on when sitting beachside.
Letarte can be pricey and if you like the brand but can’t afford it, check out my picks from prior year’s designs at BlueFly. Check out the Letarte website if you want what’s currently on store shelves and click the images below to browse last year’s models for a big savings.
I have a fabulous Hermes beach bag that I’ve had for years in cabana blue and white stripes that I love, but for really piling in a handful of towels, sunscreens and juice boxes for my kids, a favorite is my oversized Roberta Roller Rabbit Bondi Beach Bag (it’s more affordable, too, priced at $75). I have it in “Big Cata Pink” and it’s fabulous in “Amanda Orange” as well. I’ve been to their store on 70th Street in New York City and they have an East Hampton boutique as well!
