Ruschmeyer's Review

Montauk is becoming the hottest place to visit for Hamptons regulars who make their weekly trek out East on weekends.  Ruschmeyer's is the newest hotel, restaurant and bar hybrid from the King & Grove hoteliers who also own The Surf Lodge.  With its laid back, understated cool, it's not hard to see why bright young things flock to the spot, which is a essentially a playground for adults.  Equipped with an outside beer-garden to rival The Standard's, an outdoor dining area and late night bar with a stellar DJ lineup it's hard not to have fun.

I love how they stayed true to it's summer camp feel (it was a camp in the '50s) by keeping the color palette neutral with dashes of whimsy everywhere, like with a tepee in the middle of the dinning grounds.  Get the Rushmeyer's look below:

Should you stop by Ruschmeyer's for a beer or a weekend be sure to drive down the road to Navy Beach restaurant and enjoy hands down the most incredible sunset on the edge.

Scotty Reiss Designs -Designing Jewelry for Charity

We love people who are being entrepreneurial for the sake of charities and so with that in mind, I wanted to give a shout out to Scotty Reiss, of Greenwich, CT.  She has started making some fabulous hand made jewelry pieces and donating the proceeds to charity.  After the disaster in Japan, she designed the Rising Sun Solidarity Ring, made of sterling silver, Swarovski crystal and red coral. The ring has a flexible band and is one size fits all (for most).
The best part is that the ring is just $35 (plus $2 shipping) and Scotty donates $25 to Americares or to the charity of your choice.  So far she has donated over $2000 to Japan Relief.  How fabulous is this???!

She's also doing a gorgeous pink ring to support Breast Cancer research.  If you're interested in making a purchase, you can email her or send a check to Scotty Reiss Designs, 5 Dartmouth Road, Cos Cob, CT  06807 ($35 + $2 shipping and handling).  Visit her Facebook page here!  I love her desire to help others!

Surfs Up at the Screening of Sight/Sound

I attended a screening of the new surf movie, Sight/Sound, Saturday July 23rd at the Montauk staple, The Surf Lodge. The film follows director and professional surfer Mickey DeTemple and friends as they surf the world no matter the weather.  Tommy Hilfiger invested in the film so you can image everyone was decked out in their worn in bermuda reds and cotton button downs. Check out a sneak peek below.

You don't need to be a surfing enthusiast to enjoy this artful, beautifully directed film.  It was the perfect summer night and what better place than The Surf Lodge to host the East End Premier.

The decor at this local hot spot is kitschy and laid-back chic, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy a delicious ginger lemonade with friends.  It also is very inspiring in terms of how to decorate your seaside retreat.  At The Well Appointed House there is an enormous selection of products to achieve this look.  Here are some of my favorites:

Surf Lodge Chic

Get out of the expected nautical norms by pairing traditional black and white sailing pictures with bright lacquered pieces and revamped wicker chairs. Adding fun pillows is a given but that paper mache jelly fish light.... now that's a bright idea.

The Kids Are Alright

Fashion Ave is New York's constant runway. While going to and from work I've seen some pretty interesting outfits (not all of them good) however the other day I saw one of my favorites and it came from someone not tall enough to ride Space Mountain at Disney World.  This little girl was wearing cut offs, a cute boho floral top and sparkle converse sneakers.  She was carrying a Mood Fabrics bag, holding her mom's hand and WORKING it.  I wish I had a business card on me to give to her and tell her to call me when she was ready-and old enough- for an internship.  Then I realized it is so easy to be a well dressed kid today with so many trusted designers doing some adorable pint size collections.
Stella McCartney brought her London luxe aesthetic to America with her Gap Kids collaboration.  I mean... can we talk about those military jackets? Very Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club, no? Photo.  Another designer whose dudes I adore, Michelle Smith, brought her preppy-polished eye to the kid's club with her Mini Milly Collection.

I want all this for myself!  Michelle didn't have to shell out a lot of cash for her models; all the girls for the collection were classmates of her young daughter.  Really cute!  Shop the Milly Kids section here.
Leave it to J.Crew, the arbiters of American cool, to make the kind of kids clothes you want to wear. Well actually, the kind of kids clothes you already do wear.  Crewcuts takes J.Crew staples, shrinks them down and adds a dash of whimsy.  You never have to worry about fighting your kids on what to wear when you fill their closets with this brand.

Future heartbreaker... guard your daughters..

Every father's worst nightmare, right here.
When you dress your kids as well as this, their rooms have to match!  Luckily enough The Well Appointed House has you covered with a fun selection of contemporary furnishings, a vast array of themes and toys so fun, you'll extend playtime five minutes to join. Be sure to check out Melissa's entire Children's collection, most of which she either has in her home or has had her own kiddies test out! If they have such cool threads, they need the proper place to store them, it's only fair mom!

Kate Middleton and Prince William to Hire British Interior Designer Kelly Hoppen

US Weekly is reporting that the permanent royal residence of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be designed by British interior designer Kelly Hoppen.  The royal duo apparently purchased a six-month supply of the designer's home fragrance, to mask the "musty damp smell" of the palace.  A royal aide told Us that, 'They want to create a modern quarter to live in.  She [Kelly Hoppen] has been actively involved in meetings with William and Kate's office."

A source told the daily mail that, "She's [Kate] also thrown pillows around to make it look more minimalist-chic and less fuddy-duddy."

According to Hoppen's website, Kelly is, "a world renowned British designer who has pioneered a simple but opulent style that has permeated interior design at every level, and has resulted in her work being featured in newspapers and magazines across the globe.  As well as designing apartments, houses and yachts for an international list of private clients, she also undertakes commercial commissions including hotel, restaurant, office and aircraft interiors.  Her own collections of paint, fabrics, rugs, carpets and ceramics have made her signature look increasingly accessible.  Previous books include Table Chic, In Touch, Close Up and the highly influential title, East Meets West.  Her latest book, Kelly Hoppen Home, was published in September 2007."
