Bathroom Redo - My Picks for Top Bathroom Vanities

I'm doing a guest bathroom renovation and I am in the process of ordering my items.  I'll leave you guessing which vanity I am choosing, but it will likely be one of these.  Here are my top picks for bathroom vanities:
"For Country" by Michael Smith for Kallista

"For Town" by Michael Smith for Kallista - I actually used this pedestal sink in a powder room in my last house and loved it.

"Season" vanity by Devon & Devon

This is the "Louis" by Waterfall.  I like the shape of this vanity, but would use a different faucet.  The beauty of a bathroom redesign is that you can completely customize everything just as you want it!
Here are some fun ones that I could use for sure in a magical powder room:

Here it is in a wider size and below as pictured in the Ultimate Beach House for Coastal Living.

This is the "Miranda" sink base by J. Tribble.  Use it in black for nice contrast or pair it with a black and white tile or marble floor for some pop.  It's also really fun in the bright colors.

Do It Yourself! A Painted Sea Grass Rug

It's always fun when you come across a great idea.  I'm a huge fan of Mary McDonald and once in a while, she and I tweet each other from the East coast to the West....
I was just doing some reading in Veranda and came across this photo of a guesthouse master bedroom with wood floors that Mary didn't want to tear up.  So, she took a seagrass rug and had her own pattern painted on it.  Who knew?!
Painting a seagrass, sisal or jute rug wasn't something I had thought of before.  Leave it to Mary McDonald!  It's actually a great idea, especially if you've got a rug with some marks on it!  Bring it back to life with your very own geometric design!  If geometry isn't your bag, baby, then try some stripes!  Good luck!

Entertaining: An Alice in Wonderland Birthday Celebration

There is nothing I enjoy more than planning birthday parties for my kids!  I have an arsenal of photos from old parties we've had over the past six years for my three children, that at some point I'll share.  I've tried the gym and inflatables parties, we've done the Central Park Zoo birthday soiree, we did the "Let's Dress Up" party at the dollhouse room in the Museum of the City of New York -- and my kids and their friends have loved all of these celebrations.  However, I've realized that it's a bit more fun for me (!) to have the at-home, good 'old fashioned birthday celebration.  There's nothing like creating life-long memories for your little ones with birthdays they will remember forever.

Alice in Wonderland, along with the enchanting and magical characters from the story, provided ample creative inspiration for my daughter's 6th birthday party this weekend. We welcomed our pint-sized guests, ranging in age from 4 to 6, into our "Rabbit Hole". Once all of the girls had arrived, we watched the old Disney classic on DVD, followed by lots of dancing and giggling, dinner and cake!  The birthday girl got into character as "Alice" with her sister as "The Queen of Hearts".  A lot of fun was had by all and we sent the guests off with their own copy of the Random House version of the story in their goody bag.  Here are some of my photos:

Carolina Herrera's Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show at Lincoln Center Yesterday

I enjoyed attending Carolina Herrera's Spring 2012 RTW yesterday at Lincoln Center in NYC.  The collection was classic Herrera with delicate fabrics and feminine, flowing lines.  Spring greens and yellows had a big presence this year.  In fact, canary yellow was used in nine designs and eye popping jade and grass green were both seen in a handful of the creations that glided down the runway.  The pre-show excitement and buzz were apparent even before Renee Zellweger made her way into her seat on the front row.  Front row seating was lined with legends Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington and Hamish Bowles.  Graydon Carter was right there with them.  Rapper Nicki Minaj made quite an entrance looking like the Chiquita Banana lady and was seated where else, but next to the always elegant Anna Wintour.  It was quite the fashion dichotomy!

Here were some of were my favorites:

Here are some of the photos I took as I made my way to my seat.

Sorry...a very blurry picture of Grace and Hamish.

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be Renee Zellweger, this should give you an idea.  She's the one seated below all of the photographers.  They give her little breathing room!

A legend in fashion photography, Bill Cunningham

Here are some better photos than mine of the fronts of Renee and Nicky that I thought you would enjoy from Getty Images:
