There is an undeniable chill in the air up here in Greenwich, CT and that is the telltale sign that it's time to replace any lingering summer flowers with mums (if you haven't already) and stack the pumpkins and gourds by the front door! Hang your Fall wreaths and put some ornamental cabbage, kale and pansies in your garden. Cabbage loves the shorter days and low overnight temperatures, so it does well and looks great, too. The smell of chimney fires is in the air, apple picking is in full swing and soon neighborhood kids will be jumping in piles of brightly hued leaves. It's a great time of year and here are some photos to inspire your decorating.
Groupings are always nice - so instead of buying one pumpkin, why not get 6 or 8 and stack them on a hall table. It makes a nice centerpiece!

Put an elegant wreath on your front door and fill it with mini pumpkins! Or get an old wheelbarrow and fill it with carved pumpkins, gourds and bittersweet -- as you see in this photo from Better Homes & Gardens. There's no better way to welcome guests than by saying it!
Many of you have two and three tiered serving dishes, so why not fill them with pumpkins, apples and other fall items for a little color?
Here's a very simple and fun idea by Joy Ever After - add corn to votives to bring Autumn to the table! It's a very cost-effective and visual way to literally bring in the harvest.
