Jetsetting: London Summer Olympics

The London Olympic Games will be held this summer from July 27th to August 12th.  If you are considering attending the games, and want to do it in high style, check this out:

PlaneClear, the dynamic private aviation firm that has redefined standards in private jet travel, and elite travel company In ThKnow Experiences, have partnered to create an exclusive Olympics program. This alliance presents an opportunity to gain access to the most in-demand events in London during the competition. The luxury offering includes private jet transfer, accommodation at a highly sought after London property and choice seating to some of the most popular games at the Olympics.  We thought we would pass this along to those of you who are always up for traveling in style!

Seth Kaplan, Founder of In The Know Experiences said, “the London summer Olympics has become the most exclusive event of the year. With tickets to events and flights to the British Capital becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, this package offers access to a host of Olympics activities with elite experiential service being provided at every step of the way.”

For jet-setters sparing no expense on their Olympics travels, the five-night getaway to the heart of London begins with a private-jet transfer via PlaneClear.  Upon arrival, guests will be checked in to the brand new Belgraves, Thompson Hotel, the luxury hotel collection’s first exclusive foray into the European market. Located in the heart of Belgravia, the property blends traditional British hospitality with an American bohemian attitude.

Guests have the opportunity to choose from coveted tickets to Olympics sporting events, with a choice of either access to 3 events with the best seats possible or 5 events with second level seating. Options include swimming, diving, equestrian, water polo, gymnastics, shooting and more. To further enhance the Olympics experience, guests are invited to a prestigious Olympics Hospitality Tent for a day, with exquisite food, beverage and entertainment provided whilst mingling with celebrities, athletes and more in the VIP area.

Clients receive roundtrip airport transfers in a Mercedes S Class, or comparable vehicle, with a 24 hour onsite concierge that will be able to attend their every need. The program also includes leisure activities such as an exclusive invitation to a private celebrity event at the world famous Box Nightclub or Yacht Party.

The 5-night Luxury Olympics Package is available for departures on Thursday July 26th, Thursday August 2nd and Wednesday August 8th. Air-inclusive package rates start at $97,500 (wow), Challenger, Falcon, Gulfstream and Hawker aircraft available.  Not bad if you want to splurge!  Let us know if you are planning on attending the games this summer!

Wildlife Conservation Society Gala 2012: The Coasts of Patagonia - Last Night at the Central Park Zoo

My husband and I were thrilled to be a part of the "Gala Leadership" for the Wildlife Conservation Society's 2012 benefit, held last night at the Central Park Zoo.   The theme of the evening was "The Coasts of Patagonia"and the evening's honoree was Dr. Steven Sanderson, President and CEO of the Wildlife Conservation Society and Dr. Juan Carlos Castilla, Professor of Ecology at the Catholic University of Chile.   As if the hundreds of dapper men arriving in their own penguin suits wasn't charming enough, Preston Bailey and his team wowed guests with his Patagonia inspired centerpieces. The evening was magical as always, and included cocktails by the sea lions and dinner under the stars with the monkeys and polar bears.  The  evening was truly a celebration of WCS's commitment to conserving the natural beauty and ecological wealth along the coasts of Chile and Argentina.  Here are some photos supplied to me this morning by WCS:

Over 900 twenty-somethings poured in for the after-party.  Take a peek on Guest of a Guest and Patrick McMullan for event coverage.  Guests included Tinsley Mortimer and artist Cindy Sherman.  NY Social Diary already has some preliminary photos up if you'd like to take a look at David's photos.  It truly is the gala of the year and what a wonderful cause to be celebrating!  More photos to come in a few days!

Muralist Chuck Fischer at the 2012 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse

I have to admit that I am a sucker for anything hand painted.   Classic de Gournay and Gracie wallpapers are right up my alley, as is any sort of Chinoiserie mural work (done right).  At the Press Preview I attended a few weeks ago at the 2012 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse, I was thrilled to see this gem of a room by Chuck Fisher Handpainted Murals & Design.

I snapped a few photos (copyright Melissa Hawks) - the space was tight, but charming -- and his color choice was perfect and serene enough for an office.  I was surprised to find out that he not only paints murals, but is also an accomplished book author (you've got to see his pop up books!) and designer of licensed home products.  I enjoyed meeting him at Kip's Bay!

He has designed fabric collections for Brunschwig & Fils and wallpaper for Schumacher.  He has three signature china collections with LENOX (his British Colonial Collection ranks in the top 10 fine bridal china patterns in the U.S.) and paper collections with Caspari and CR Gibson. So, if you are looking for an accomplished muralist, check out Chuck Fisher!  Enjoy!  If any of you have used Chuck in your home, please post here!

Creative Garden Planters & Window Boxes - Have Some Fun in the Garden!

Summer is here and it's time to get creative and have plantings in place to take root for the summer!  Take inspiration from these fabulous photos that we have curated from around the internet.  Ok, so we admit it - not many of us have an old VW to convert into the world's largest flower planter -- but you can purchase elegant pots and window boxes to make your entryways, patios and pool areas that much more special!  Be creative and mix things up.  We love the subtle touches in the second photo (from Houzz.com) where the homeowners took fabulous blue and white ceramic pots and tied them in nicely with a bright Buckingham blue door!  (the fox head door knocker is a nice touch, too!)

There are alternatives to traditional window boxes - such as placing ceramic pots on a bracketed ledge.  Window boxes come in all shapes and sizes ranging from painted wood to wrought iron -- we've even seen some wine boxes converted to window boxes!  We often think of the English Countryside when we think of window boxes, but they are also great for city dwellers who have a green thumb and limited space!

Bring the indoors "out" this year, add some color and have fun!
Here are some brand new Indoor/Outdoor planters we have.  Enjoy!
