My middle daughter went to the most fantastic girls “camp out” themed birthday party recently for one of her classmates. It was so great that I wanted to post it on the blog, as her mother went all out with making this an A++ evening for all of the girls. From the moment we received the adorable die-cut invitation that was beyond creative to the iPhone photos I received during the party, it was clear that her mom, April Larken, who just happens to be a party planner knew exactly how to plan a transporting evening for an excited group of 10-year-old girls! Everything was perfect — from the posted schedule of the evening’s activities, to the DIY dream catchers (which the girls loved!), to the indoor campfire circle complete with teepee tents, to the camp circle and truth-or-dare evening girl talk. It was spot on for this age group! The best part was that the entire party took place at home! Take a look:
Ok, so to make you feel better (if your at-home birthday parties haven’t looked quite this fabulous!) here is the scoop on April and her party-planning background:
April Larken started her career as a wedding dress designer / bridal stylist 20 years ago, working for top bridal houses – Vera Wang & Carolina Herrera. After taking a break from brides to start a family, she went back into the wedding industry again, but this time planning and designing dream weddings for stylish brides that wanted something unexpected and original for their special day. Drawing on her years of experience with brides and her incredible relationships in the wedding industry, April has designed weddings for some of the most discerning brides in NYC, NJ and CT.
Weddings are the ultimate party and party planning is something that comes naturally to her. When it comes to her own family’s celebrations and her children’s birthdays, she gives the same dedication and attention to detail to her family as she does her brides. (we can tell!) For her, working with her children during the weeks leading up to their parties is almost more fun than the actual party! She’s able to get whimsical and creative in ways that only children can and planning their birthday parties has become their favorite pastime. (I think we are all thinking that we’ve got to step up our birthday party game!)
We can see the effort she puts in, and I have no doubt that some of you may want to call April for some birthday party planning h-e-l-p! Not only is she creative, but she’s also fun and is in DJ school right not just to mix it up! After realizing that she spends most of her time discussing music with the DJs at her events (and making playlists for fashion shows and charity events) she finally took their advice and enrolled in DJ school in 2016. This June she’ll graduate from Scratch Academy in NYC and be ready to take on party’s dance floor as a female DJ! Love it! Post a comment if you want April to contact you!
