Cashmere Care

The first fall chill is here in a big way, which means it’s time to break out the winter cashmere and store the spring/summer pieces. Cashmere is one of life’s great little luxuries and one of life’s little menace’s greatest treats, uh huh… the moth. Moths are harmless to humans but deadly to their closets and they are biggest in the humidity, which means the summer months are high season. When storing your sweaters/ blankets make sure they are clean; moths love stained garments more than the material, but when cashmere is involved it’s like eating a cracker with caviar on it instead of peanut butter to these little buggers. Store clean cashmere in a garment bag and place it in a dry place. Repelling moths is merely a matter of nature: cloves, rosemary, lavender, thyme, dried orange peel and cedar all do the trick! For cleaning your cashmere The Well Appointed House suggests seeking your well appointed dry cleaner; this isn’t the kind of job we want to mess around with when it comes to our favorite fiber.
