The Spirit of Beauty Exhibition

Emmanuel Perrin does not disappoint…

Back in November, I reported that I had received a lovely hard cover book, The Poetry of Time, beautifully wrapped in Van Cleef paper and a hand written note from Emmanuel (CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels) writing about how much he enjoyed the blog (read entry here).
I am pleased to report that I received another surprise in the mail from Mr. Perrin. This time he sent The Spirit of Beauty: Van Cleef & Arpels, printed in October 2009 in France, along with another lovely note.

Xavier Berral is the Art Director and publication editor on the book.  It begins with a foreward by Catherine Deneuve and an intro by Janet Zapata on the last 100 years of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry design.  The book was printed as a preface to the Spirit of Beauty Exhibition currently running (October 31, 2009 – January 19, 2010) at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo.  Patrick Jouin was the Concept Designer and the Organizers were The Asahi Shimbun, TBS, with special cooperation from Van Cleef & Arpels in association with The French Embassy.  The exhibition showcases over 100 years of spectacular jewelry design by Van Cleef.
Named after a famous Van Cleef & Arpels clip in the form of a fairy, “The Spirit of Beauty” book and exhibition will unveil to readers and guests jewels, timepieces, fashion accessories and decorative objects selected from the jewelry house’s private collection and also from great French and international collections.  Placed under the protection of the magical fairies, the exhibit is built around four themes: The Spirit of Nature, The Spirit of Elegance, The Spirit of Adventure and Incarnations.  I highly recommend that you visit the Van Cleef website and take a tour of the exhibit.  It is breathtaking!

The book has not yet been released, but you can pre-order it at Amazon.com.  It is a beautiful, over-sized coffee table book that will add to any room!

Thank you Emmanuel!
