Keeping up with the Trends at the New York International Gift Fair

Tomorrow wraps up an intense but inspiring couple of days at the New York International Gift Fair.  As great as it was to see a lot of new vendors it was also great to see some new life breathed into our old tried and true brands.  After walking up and down the aisles it was time to  sit down, decompress, dump out our VERY full bags and look at our pictures. Currently we are sifting through all our materials to find the best of the best to introduce through The Well Appointed House.  Heres a little sampling of what to come.  As Melissa Hawks wrote earlier, all that’s British is gold for the upcoming season and while we do love the Brits they weren’t the only country representing at the gift fair.

Indian inspired prints with silver and tin accents had a strong showing this past week.  There were lots of bright colors and beautiful ikat prints filling Pier 94 and the Jacob Javits Center.

Even just a little accent of some of these prints in a pillow or small chair form can transform your space; bringing in cultural influences to your decor gives a worldly, well traveled feel.

Details in unexpected places, like the knobs on that chest and the etching throughout the tin chair add character.  It will look as though you have journeyed far and wide scouring flea markets to find the perfect piece for your room.

When it comes to looking for new lighting fixtures, chandeliers and lamps we really try to find artful conversation pieces you can’t get anywhere else, which is why we were so happy to see a lot of skilled artisans trying their hands at lighting.

From traditional to modern there was something for everyone when it came to lighting.

Haute Femme is a trend you can expect to see a lot of this upcoming season.  Think vinyl fabrics in bright hues set against Louix XIV inspired pieces.  Its high fashion for high living.

Ultra girly, these pieces can work for a little girls room, a teeny bopper or the ultimate bachelorette pad.

Get ready to want to move into your kid’s room.  Your kids take after you so why shouldn’t their decor?  Below is a snapshot from one of our designer’s new children’s collection.  Now the chairs and sofas you love for you are scaled down for your mini me! We also love the custom rugs and cute figure lamps.

 Look, it’s our lampert loveseat!!
Talk about glamour! This new line was full of it, especially when it came to the children’s line.  So elegant, you don’t need to sacrifice sophistication at the expense of creating a darling children’s room.

We could not get enough of these vintage circus themed accessories, ideal for a playroom.  They are fun and whimsical yet they still keep your home’s overall decor elevated.

As much as the gift fair is about looking forward there was a lot of looking back to vintage pieces as inspiration, as we see above and below.
These vintage trays actually fit into tray tables, so if you already have the table you can switch up the tray.
These vintage silk prints are a nice take on simply hanging wall art.  This vendor showed her pieces framed and hanging as panels and both looked tres chic.

What would we be if not known for our classic preppy staples?  This year we were not disappointed!

It was also nice to see some of the products we already carry still very much part of the trends like our Trina Turk collection.

Another trend that we hope becomes more of a staple in home decor was sustainability and fair trade labor because “green” is a color we should all wear more of.  Pictures were taken from the main display at the Jacob Javits Center.

A goal for the upcoming new year is to grow our organic and eco-friendly collection and with products this cute it shouldn’t be too hard.

We are literally giddy with excitement over all the new products we’ve seen and the new vendors we’ve found and cannot wait to share them all with you.  Be sure to check back often as we will be adding new products daily!  We can’t think of a better way to start off the new year other than with our fab new website and lots of well appointed goodies in it!
