No matter what religion you are or what holiday you are celebrating now (or in a few weeks) one thing is for sure, the sights and smells of December are incredible. I took a day off from work today to focus on decorating the house for the holidays. Over the weekend, we started pulling boxes and boxes of holiday decorations that literally go back to my childhood. Ornaments that have been passed down to me by my Mother; favorite nutcrackers, wreaths and even tree skirts that I have been collecting over the past few years. Christmas keepsakes made by my little ones in nursery school that I have tucked away to place on our “Children’s Tree”…and a collection of Santas that has been ten years in the making. I am lucky enough to decorate many mantles at our house this year and so there are plenty of places for stockings to be hung!
This particular one I kept simple, while others will be chalk full of garlands, ribbons and snowmen….stay tuned! I hung wreaths on the house, strung Christmas lights on the bushes and bought my favorite mulling spices to keep the house feeling cozy and smelling nice! My Fall mums were replaced with miniature Balsam firs and Christmas greens and we are ready for some holiday celebrating! I filled our magical advent calendar with sweets for my kids Tuesday night and they awoke 12/1 to the return of our “Elf on the Shelf”, who they have named “Peter”. See holiday photos from my home last year if you are not familiar with this delightful little Elf…
Here are a few of my favorite holiday items from my website, The Well Appointed House:

Of course we have a fabulous selection of collectible Steinbach nutcrackers! This one, the Gingerbread Man Nutcracker, is fabulous and I have him in my kitchen as we speak. You can put a little cone of burning incense inside his freshly baked gingerbread house and little puffs of smoke drift from the chimney. Pure magic to any child! See this and our other Steinbach nutrackers here.
