Miles Redd in Veranda: Get the Look!

When I read my November/December 2010 issue of Veranda, I immediately flagged the Miles Redd spread.   I fell in love with his custom pagoda style window treatments.   I am a big fan of Chinoiserie details in decorating and the stripes are right on trend (see my entry on Stripes on the Runway and in the Home). The shape is certainly whimsical, yet elegant, and gives us a glimpse into Redd’s creativity in putting his vision almost from pen to paper (literally).  It’s as though he sketched a doodle of what he imagined the windows to be and then snapped his fingers and these charming pagoda-like coronas appeared.

One of my blog followers is Teresa at Splendid Sass (and winner of our most recent blog giveaway!) and she was kind enough to post scans of that issue of Veranda on her blog, so take a look if you haven’t already had the pleasure of reading the article:

Like the decorative porcelain pieces placed under the console?  So do we!   The Well Appointed House sells a variety of Chinese Garden Stools.  We can order them in white (exactly what you see here – the same garden stool with the Chinese symbol for prosperity at center – contact us at customerservice@wellappointedhouse.com to order this piece) and here are two pretty pastels, $345 each:
Miles placed some fun foo dogs and obelisks atop the hall table and The Well Appointed House has a great collection of decorative ceramics.  I love our fun “Dog with Bell Collar“, $290, which would look lovely in a similar room setting:
This breakfast nook is fun and we love the red accents:

Again here, we see the Chinese garden stools in white…perhaps Miles placed them in the living room as well or perhaps just borrowed them from the hall and moved them to the living room for the photoshoot – but this is the beauty of pieces like these stools:  you should be able to move furniture you buy from room to room and provide additional seating or side tables to place drinks and snacks.  Colors should flow as you go and pieces must be versatile and functional.  Things placed around a room should be functional and serve a purpose, so if you have a side chair perched in a corner, be sure to have a drink table handy.  Garden stools are ideal for many uses!

The green lattice sideboards placed between the windows remind me of similar pieces we had on our website (but are now discontinued) – a similar chest from The Well Appointed House that would look nice in a room such as this one is our Harnett Mirrored Cabinet on White:
We love the delicate Venetian mirror placed above the strong, mahogany sideboard – these mirrors are quite popular right now and the Gracie/de Gournay paper is delightful.
If you like this look, check out some of our mirrors:
and a less expensive option:  the Hand Etched Palazzo Venetian Mirror, $490
Like the red chairs?  They make a bold statement.  Well, so do we (of course) and we have a few great options in our patio and garden collection.  Hand forged wrought iron, made in the USA:
Check out our Mandarin collection – chairs can also be made from this collection, contact us for more information.
All of the rooms Miles does are fabulous!  We also have these lamps and they will be up on the site soon, check back in a few days!  Great mixing of patterns.  We love the hand painted paper with the playful animal print rug!  Mirrored chests and bright yellow lamps and he’s truly done it all!
