The spring collections are hitting stores and it couldn’t come at a better time. I for one cannot wait to get out of my sweaters and boots and into something bright, light and strappy. Nothing lifts you out of the winter doldrums like a flirty new frock or sexy shoe.
From New York to Milan to Paris, big bold color was a major story. Eye-catching hues aren’t always the easiest to wear, but this season designers did them in such a chic, jet-set-worthy way, you won’t be able to resist.
Cuts in color ran the full spectrum: Calvin Klein Collection’s poppy-hued shift was a standout – minimal in design but daring in color. Ditto Michael Kors’ lemon yellow long-sleeve, short-hemmed dress, Akris’ architectural suiting in cobalt. And Tory Burch went breezy in bright orange.
On the other end of the spectrum were crisp whites. Carolina Herrera, Celine, Derek Lam and Valentino were among the many designers to feature the stark shade – in everything from structured suits to feminine cocktail dresses to classic trenches.
Whimsical prints are always a fun way to usher in a warm-weather season. Botanical motifs ruled, especially for evening, and there was something for everyone. A tropical pineapple pattern at Stella McCartney for the young-at-heart; a more toned-down floral at Donna Karan; Dolce & Gabbana had a lace trimmed, ladylike lunch-to-cocktails suit; Yves Saint Laurent showed a supersultry chiffon frock.
And while we are updating our wardrobes, take the opportunity to perk up your home too. You’d be surprised how refreshing it feels to make small seasonal changes to your interiors. A new addition to your home decor can be just as thrilling as one to your closet.
