Botanical Chic: Carolina Herrera

For her Spring 2011 collection, the doyenne of uptown elegance, Carolina Herrera, was influenced by a traditional element in home decor (we at the Well Appointed House love that!) — 18th century botanical plates.  The intricate floral “drawings”–complete with calligraphy plant names–were emblazoned across simple-shaped shifts, just-below-the-knee skirts and floor-sweeping ball-worthy gowns. Against a backdrop of black, white and neutral beige, the colorful botanical prints popped. The result made for eye-catching, beautiful creations.

Herrera also took inspiration from traditional Korean garb. And Asian details abound — think obi-style cinching belts, exquisite embroidery, plush jacquard, and pleating in just the right places. The shapes were structured but very feminine at the same time, with nipped-in waists and form-fitting skirts. The cultural reference combined with the natural element of botanicals gave the collection depth and ladylike allure. Perfect for a garden party, cocktails on the patio, or a spring black-tie. One thing is for sure, in any piece from Herrera’s line, you won’t be a shrinking violet.

It is all so fabulous. I like the long black gown, the headboard is fantastic, and the pastry table is a winner. You have such great items.
    Thanks for the treat.
I would love to see that headboard in person.
