Derek Lam & Alexander Wang RTW Fall 2011

I like Derek Lam and Alexander Wang.

That’s me above with Tina Fey, both of us in Derek Lam and below with Alexander Wang.

I’ve been perusing the Fall 2011 ready to wear collections.  Why fashion is relevant on this blog is three fold:

First, people who enjoy a well appointed house typically like having a well appointed closet.
Second, it is socially relevant to keep up with what is hitting the runways and to know what will be in stores come the Fall.
Third, I like to see what fabrics and embellishments are being used, what sources from life and pop culture are serving as inspiration for our nation’s top designers, who their muses are and that all helps me select what home products to showcase and select for 2011.  It is all relevant to what fabrics and colors that I see selling.

Derek began his show notes with a quote from George Balanchine (how elegant and appropriate considering the venue for the show).  Here are a few of my favorite’s because of the color combinations and the fact that they are so wearable:

I like the colors and materials used here and the design at right has sleeves that remind me of my Lam dress above.

Alexander Wang’s collection was incredible in every way.  The designs and accessories were over the top in presentation – they were sleek, sexy and utterly glamorous.  Alexander paid attention to every detail and the shoes, bags and sunglasses didn’t disappoint.  I am seeing a new sunglass trend in 2011: thickly rimmed aviators.  Whether or not people would actually wear the Gorsuch inspired sunglasses with the fur muffs attached will yet to be seen, but they sure looked great on the models.

Glitzy Pants – very cool

An elegant finale with sleek silhouettes.
Applause.

I was at the fabulous Derek Lam show as well (also discussed today). Too bad I didn’t know – we could have arranged to say hello! I’ll be there Wednesday for Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore and Milly. If you’re going, let me know!!
