Elegance, elegance, elegance was the mantra at Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2011 runway show.  Let’s not forget luxury, restraint, refinement…and overall Uptown chic, too.

The stars of the show were the daywear but the simple and feminine shapes covered all elements of the Carolina Herrera woman’s lifestyle: gray flannel knee length skirts and straight leg trousers; sophisticated suits and day dresses; very ladylike cocktail looks; and black-tie worthy ball gowns. The palette went from menswear-esque gray flannel and black to lush amethyst and chocolate brown to purple jewel tones with bursts of orange, cornflower blue and turquoise. While most of the daywear was in solids, a beautiful feather printed blouse and dress were highlights.

The real luxury laid in the details. There were skinny and wide velvet belts that gave each look another layer of richness, and velvet pointy-toed, lace-tied heels.  Fox fur sleeves upped the posh factor on a tweedy jacket and coat. Sable lined the collar of a simply cut cashmere dress for a fancy twist. And a luscious jacket and scarf cut in sable would surely make every Madison Avenue girl swoon.

Glitz was done in the most refined of ways: Sparkly sequins lined the front of a cashmere sweater and peeked out of the collar of a simple V-neck sweater and on the shoulder of dress. Oscar gown shoppers won’t be disappointed with a few knockouts to choose from.

The shoes, by Manolo Blahnik, captured the elegant femininity of the collection accented with bows, but others had hints of menswear with oxford-like ties.

Now, if we only didn’t have to wait until next fall to start wearing these pieces!
