White Right

Decorating your home with white may be the ultimate (and maybe easiest) way to get a clean and serene feel to your living space. Going for stark shades can also be the perfect refresher and update for spring.  While white may be a little high-maintance when it comes to keeping it gleaming, it can instantly brighten a room — and create the perception of open space.
Going all-white doesn’t have to be about an ubermodern and minimal style. Love the way semi-homemade guru (and “first girlfriend” of New York) Sandra Lee decorated the Westchester home she shares with Governor Andrew Cuomo.  She did white in a warm, cozy and inviting way. She mixed creams and ivory and incorporated glass details. The room just fills with light. And her kitchen looks so clean and organized!

Consider a white out when it comes to your closet too.  The wardrobe options abound this time of year and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that white was a major trend on the spring 2011 runways. Designers often go in a crisp, clean direction for warm-weather clothes.  Keep it simple or let the pale palette play the perfect backdrop for standout accessories.

Don’t pack away the whites post-labor day, the pale hue is not just reserved for sunny days anymore.  Winter white made a big impact in the recent fall 2011 collections — in chunky sweaters, sleek suits, dramatic capes and space-age cocoon coats among the runway looks.

So now is the time to be done the winter blues and blacks and grays, and start thinking bright white when it comes to your home and your look.

I have always been a WHITE fan. In the 70’s I talked my boyfriend into doing a white on white wall paper book. I bet it is still on the market.
