Summer Style File: The Cover Up Uncovered

Everything is easier in the summer, including dressing.  It is far easier, and chic, to roll straight from the beach or the pool without having to go home and plan to do a wardrobe change.  Luckily, it seems like this season designers have pushed the limits in what’s expected as far as a cover-up, playing with shapes and styles, making it a breeze to not put a lot of effort into looking effortless.

Okay, so there is nothing exactly groundbreaking about a pareo, but most of us have one and it’s a great place to start. It’s all how you work it.  Length is everything this season, with most trends pointing to ground grazing hemlines, so skip the fancy twists and ties like pictured above and opt for a simple tucked in side tie by wrapping the pareo around your waist creating an instant maxi skirt.  I especially love this print from Roberta Roller Rabbit for a nice pop. Pair with a knotted plain white button down, a floppy hat and aviators and you’re the chicest chick at happy hour.
For the boho-babe, it really doesn’t get any better than this empire waist, semi sheer tunic.  Wear with your favorite patterned bikini for some color and you’ll be channeling that Cali-girl vibe no matter what the coast.  Try finishing it all off with an unexpected pair of gladiators like these from  Jimmy Choo:
For those of you who prefer the trendier end of the spectrum, these Matthew Williamson

Ikat-print silk-mousseline pants are the be-all-end-all.  No one does patterns quite like the British designer who is a favorite at London Fashion week.  These pants are the perfect fix to break out of your beach rut with the slouchy fit and cargo accents.  Top it off with a white crop top, fedora and simple flats and your ready for sunset cocktails in Montauk.

A white dress is as important to a summer wardrobe as fall and winter’s LBD, so make sure yours can go the distance.  I love this number from Bronzette because the V cut isn’t so crazy that you can’t wear a bandeau top and the length is appropriate enough to double as a day to night ensemble.  The classic shape and cinched in waist makes this a preppy piece that every fashionista can sport. Accent with bold bangles and an orange lip.  For more beach wear inspiration check out Melissia’s Post on some of her favorite brands.
