Greenwich Garden Tour 2013: Part 3 Round Hill Road

I really enjoyed visiting 205 Round Hill Road in this year's Greenwich Garden Tour.  I drive by this home routinely and have always loved the magical benches framing the front yard hedge.  Landscape designer Martha Baker did the master plan for this 1820 Georgian house in 2002.  The entrance was completely redesigned and the twelve London plane trees were installed in the Spring of 2004 to create the formal English feel the owner desired.  Large granite blocks border the center grass island and are used in the front parking court design to coordinate with the original granite used in the front landing.  On the right corner of the house is a large Zelkova tree.  To the right of the driveway a large beech was installed to replace an existing maple that was damaged during the contraction.

The two benches in front of the hornbeam hedge were found at Chatsworth in England.

I walked through the gate in the hornbeam hedge through the fastigiate oaks and into the pool garden.  A series of garden rooms surround the pool area, the rose garden and the outdoor fireplace.  Lattice was applied to the pool house to make it more charming.

Behind the pool area is the tennis court, which was designed with wisteria covered columns and more lattice.  Two lilacs were moved to create an entryway to the guest cottage, which was also covered with lattice.

Back behind the guesthouse and gates is a fabulous woodland garden created by Martha Baker's son, Charlie.  It features a rustic gazebo, table and chairs all made from cedar.  Grape vines climb the structure - it was beautiful, but I couldn't photograph it due to tour participants enjoying some relaxation at the table!  It was a gorgeous home and we were lucky to have it on the tour! ~Melissa Hawks
