The Wall Street Tennis Challenge, was held on Saturday, September 21st in Greenwich, CT to raise money for ovarian cancer research. I was pleased to serve as a Co-Chair! The event was created by one of my best friends, Marjorie Pastel, in honor of her mother, Bette Drymer Shapiro, who passed away after a six year battle with ovarian cancer in 1998. All proceeds of the evening benefit the National Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine led by Dr. David Fishman. The exciting event featured some of Wall Street’s finest tennis players paired up in 20 doubles teams, who competed at the Field Club of Greenwich in a round robin during the day, followed by the tournament final exhibition match, cocktails, dinner, auction and dancing into the evening at the Greenwich Country Club. Jimmy Arias, a tennis prodigy who turned pro at age 16 in 1980 and had a career high ranking of No. 5 in the world in 1984, was the evening’s emcee. He currently serves as a commentator for ESPN International and the Tennis Channel. Highlights of the event included match play with many former professional tennis players including Tom Blake and other top players such as David Caldwell, Ted Danforth, Jon Pastel, Ricky Sandler, Jason Pinsky, Brandon Ogara and Jimmy Bass. The winners of the coveted 2013 Wall Street Tennis Challenge title were Justin Natale and Christian Nagler, who won two tiebreaks back to back in the semis and finals against Bill Ackman and Jason Pinsky to clinch the victory. Chairs of the event were Marjorie and Jon Pastel, Kristina Gabelli, Jennifer Morris,Lori Zych and myself . Committee members included Shal Ahmen, Lynda Baldini, Amy Balducci, Lindsay Barth, Vicki Boxer, Gretchen Bylow, Jordana Cecil, Lauren Cranston, Melinda Ganeles, Ingrid Hang, Alison Hoenig, Ally Jacoutot, Robyn Jones, Lauren Lewis, Carolyn Pastel, Emma Pennington, Jodi Pontoriero, Kristen Quick, Wendy Reyes, Mara Sandler, Kristen Scherb, Suzanne Shapiro, Sarah Tazi, Leigh Teixeria, Carrie Wallack, Kelly Watts and Stephanie Webb.
