Spring has finally arrived where I am in Greenwich, CT! I’m sure the weather has already been beautiful in the rest of the country, but for us, this past week has been our first taste of Spring for 2015! The birds chirp outside the windows at the crack of dawn, waking up my dogs, waking up my children and hence me! I can hardly complain about this after the long winter we have had! This morning,I came downstairs and opened doors and windows to let the fresh air in. The sun was already up and the grass struggling to turn a rich shade of green. It’s such an exciting feeling! I ran by the local garden nursery this week and picked up flowers that I plan to plant later today. It is supposed to be 76! Can you tell that I am happy? Foremost on my mind this year are ticks – after the struggle with Lyme I have had over the past year. So, before you get out your gardening cans, be sure to spray your yard for ticks. This year I plan to supplement the spraying with tick boxes on my property as well. The CDC now estimates 300,000 new cases of Lyme disease each year and I can’t tell you from a personal level, how much I hope that you or your children don’t ever get Lyme. If you love gardening as much as I do, keep it on your mind as you prepare your yard for the upcoming garden season. Spray your kids before they go out to play in the yard. I’m keeping tick spray by the doors so they don’t forget.
We’ve been hard at work sprucing up our garden collection over at out sister site, The Well Appointed House. Over the next few days we will do features on the fabulous garden planters, statues, bird houses, water fountains and ornaments that we carry.
Anduze and ceramic garden planters are always pretty when filled with colors that complement the beautiful paint finishes on the pots. I like the natural pottery feel of these — in fact, I have about eight huge planters in this style by my pool. It’s interesting, because I rarely see these at my local garden centers and when I do, they go quickly. They are unique in color and style and so these seem to be good planters to order online and have shipped direct. We’ve got a huge collection of garden planters that you can browse – click here to see what we currently have. Here are some inspiration photos I pulled from Pinterest to give you an idea of how fabulous these look when brimming over with blooms. Flowers are always beautiful and require maintenance and frequent watering, so in some cases, topiary or plain boxwood look great in these planters, too!
You can go in many directions in terms of color and material with these pots, but the overall look brings warmth to the garden. These pots ooze a French country feel, but can be mixed in with a variety of exterior house and patio styles, as you can see from the above inspiration photos. Here we have selected a few favorites – click photos links to buy:
